About BuyTripInsurance.net

An independent travel insurance comparison site built by a licensed insurance producer. Here is what we do, how we do it, and where the site fits into your buying decision.

Our Mission

BuyTripInsurance.net exists to help US travelers make better travel insurance buying decisions. The travel insurance market is fragmented, plan terms vary widely between carriers, and even industry insiders find plan comparisons hard to read. Our goal is to publish clear, plain-English overviews of the carriers, coverage types, and considerations that go into a travel insurance decision — and to link out to the underwriting carriers so you can pull a live quote and review the actual policy documents before buying.

We are not a broker. We do not underwrite. We do not bind coverage. We are an independent comparison and content site, supported financially through affiliate arrangements with the carriers we cover. The pages on this site are educational; the policies that govern your coverage are issued and administered by the carriers themselves.

About the Founder

BuyTripInsurance.net was founded and is edited by David B., a licensed insurance producer with more than two decades in the property, casualty, and specialty insurance markets. Prior to launching BuyTripInsurance.net, David spent his career on the retail agency and wholesale-brokerage sides of the industry — where the daily work of matching clients to appropriate coverage informs the editorial voice you find here.

All content on this site reflects David’s editorial oversight and is written or reviewed with the same discipline he applies to placing coverage for clients: clear language, honest limitations, and an insistence on referring readers to the actual policy documents for anything that will govern coverage.

How We Evaluate Carriers

The five travel insurance carriers featured on this site — Trawick International, Travelex Insurance, Generali Global Assistance, IMG Global, and Travel Insured International — were chosen because each has a distinct product positioning, a mature US distribution presence, and financial backing that we assess as reasonable for consumer travel insurance. We do not attempt to cover every carrier in the US market; we cover a curated set where the differences between products are meaningful and worth comparing.

For each carrier, our review process includes:

  • Reviewing the carrier’s publicly available Description of Coverage documents and sample Certificates of Insurance.
  • Pulling sample quotes across different traveler profiles, trip cost bands, and destinations to observe product positioning.
  • Cross-referencing carrier claims about coverage limits, exclusions, and eligibility against the actual policy language.
  • Tracking how the carrier’s product line evolves year over year (new plans, retired plans, state availability changes).

Head-to-head comparison pages describe product positioning as we understand it at the time of writing. Because plan tiers, options, riders, and state availability change frequently, we caution readers throughout the site that the specific plan you are quoted may differ from what we describe, and that any comparison here should be verified on the live quote and policy documents before purchase.

Our Editorial Standards

We hold ourselves to the following standards on every page we publish:

  • Cautious wording. We avoid definitive “X is the best” language in favor of positioning statements (“X may be worth considering when…”). Travel insurance is a fit-to-situation product; declaring one carrier “better” without context is misleading.
  • Policy document supremacy. Every comparison and coverage description on this site directs the reader back to the carrier’s policy documents, Certificate of Insurance, and live quote as the governing sources.
  • No fabricated testimonials. We do not publish customer testimonials, reviews, or star ratings that we cannot verify. When we cite third-party recognition (for example, industry rankings), we say who ranked what and when.
  • Clear disclosure. The affiliate arrangements that fund the site are disclosed in the footer of every page and in the full Disclaimer.
  • State and options awareness. Travel insurance availability, benefits, and pricing vary by state of residence, plan tier, and options selected. We remind readers throughout the site to verify current availability for their situation.

How We Are Funded

This site is funded by affiliate arrangements with the carriers featured. When a reader clicks through to a carrier’s quote page from BuyTripInsurance.net and subsequently purchases a policy, the site may receive a commission. Affiliate arrangements do not affect editorial positioning — the same product-neutral, cautious wording applies whether a carrier is a partner or not. Where a carrier we cover has multiple affiliate options (individual, group, agent contract), we generally use the option that best matches the article’s topic.

What This Site Is Not

  • Not personalized insurance advice. Nothing on BuyTripInsurance.net is personalized to your specific situation, needs, health status, or financial circumstances. For personalized advice, consult a licensed insurance professional in your state of residence.
  • Not a policy issuer. BuyTripInsurance.net does not issue, underwrite, bind, or administer any insurance policy. Policies are issued by the underwriting carriers.
  • Not exhaustive. We cover five carriers and a defined set of coverage types. There are dozens of other carriers and specialty products in the US travel insurance market that we do not cover.
